Tsomoriri Lake

Tso Moriri is a beautiful high-altitude lake situated in the Changthang region of Ladakh. It is one of the largest high-altitude lakes in India and is known for its serene beauty and crystal-clear waters. Tso Moriri is located in the Changthang region of Ladakh, about 240 km from Leh town. It is situated at an altitude of 4,522 meters above sea level and covers an area of approximately 120 sq. km.

Tso Moriri is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. The lake is fed by several small streams and is known for its crystal-clear waters that reflect the surrounding landscape. Tso Moriri is also a birdwatcher's paradise, with several rare and endangered species of birds like the bar-headed goose, black-necked crane, and Brahminy duck found in the region.

Tso Moriri has Cultural Significance and is considered a sacred lake by the local people of Ladakh, and several festivals and rituals are held near the lake every year. The Changpas, a nomadic tribe of Ladakh, are known to graze their livestock in the region and have been doing so for centuries.

Tso Moriri can be reached by road from Leh town. The journey takes approximately 7-8 hours and involves crossing several high mountain passes. Visitors are advised to take precautions and acclimatize to the high altitude environment before embarking on the journey. There are also several guesthouses and campsites near the lake where visitors can stay overnight.
